Stewarding for Future Generations
My management philosophy is simple: leave the land in a better state than I found it. Leveraging a background in ecological science, statistics, and years of boots-on-the-ground forestry experience, I can help you achieve your goals for your land.
I work with clients to identify their goals and objectives first. From there, I can offer advice, draw up a plan, or prepare forest treatments to work towards those goals. All recommendations are made with forest and ecosystem health in mind. We can accomplish your goals and work towards a healthier forest, one that will be more resilient to drought, wildfire, disease, & insects.
As part of the new generation of Foresters, I've been trained to understand forests as complex ecosystems that provide immeasurable value. From clean water, to wildlife habitat, to beauty, recreation, & so many other benefits, our forests are so much more valuable than the dollar amount of their timber.
Forest structure in the East Cascades has been heavily altered by a nearly 200 year history of high grade & clearcut logging. Human suppression of wildfire the past 100 years has eliminated low-moderate severity wildfires, a beneficial type of natural disturbance that naturally thinned eastside forests for millennia. Furthermore, a shifting climate that sees more prolonged drought and reduced snowpack is putting undue stress on many already struggling trees. A guiding hand is often needed to help these degraded forests recover, moving them towards a better long term path.
We can walk your forest together and educate you on what's there - thinning is often, but not always appropriate. I don't connect myself to timber revenues, so there's no incentive to cut any heavier than ecologically appropriate. It's not uncommon I turn down jobs motivated purely by revenue generation. My modus operandi is to restore and allow our forests to thrive, putting healthy ecosystems above maximizing revenue.
